TL;DR: The machine thinks that the door is being opened during the cycle, hence no error codes.
It's one of three things:
• The door IS actually being opened, without you knowing, by a child / family member who does not know how to restart the wash cycle;
• The control board has gone bad; or
• The door switch has gone bad.
In a (somewhat rare) twist, my local shop wanted $350 (after diagnostics fee) to replace less than $100 in parts, so I DIY'd it. I realize that sounds (stereo)typical but I've not (knowingly) gotten ripped off that badly for a while.

Interestingly, the door switch uses a magnet and Hall-effect sensor to determine if the door is closed or not. It should be reliable...
Tips:
• I found it helpful to stick something under the door to keep the front panel from falling off when you remove the door screws. I used both a cardboard box and some chunks of packing foam that I had lying around, but anything non-marring and the right height would work.
• Don't forget to reinstall the handle bracket on to the control PCB mounting box before sticking the new control board back into the door.
• The top / front door screws are different lengths than the mid and rear/bottom door screws. I knew this and still mixed a couple up (argh), but you probably won't damage anything if you do the same.
In my case, my wife complained that the washer still stopped even after replacing the board and switch. But that somehow when away when I stuck a security cam on the washer to see if anyone was messing with it.
